Private hire drivers in Reading are upset that whilst they are banned from using bus lanes taxis coming into Reading from adjacent counties are allowed to use the bus lanes.
Smith Vanderpuye, chairman of the association,said not being able to use bus lanes meant private hire drivers in Reading were losing a lot of work. Reading Private Hire Association members attended a meeting to put their concerns to Lib Dem and Green Party councillors.
Lib Dem councillor Ricky Duveen listed a number of towns and cities including Oxford, Swindon, Doncaster and Bath where private hire drivers are allowed to use bus lanes and Green Party spokesman Rob White added: "I view private hire drivers as an integral part of the public transport system and you should be on equal footing with taxi drivers."
